Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows how to use the shared session feature of
the OneNote 2003 SP1 Preview over the Internet. Do you need a publicly
accessible IP address, or can you just forward port 2302 through your
firewall(s)? Is NAT Translation required for this?

Thanks in advance!

Jason

NAT translation is part of the requirement, as well as a publicly available
IP address. If your firewall can "publish" port 2302 (or whatever port is
selected under "Tools | Options | Shared Session" from the inside then I
don't see any reason why not.

Keep in mind that the session sharing is peer to peer, and that in order to
find the computer that is sharing a person's OneNote session, a participant
would need to know the person's IP address or the publicly resolvable FQDN
of their computer.

The easiest way is just to use the "Invite Participants..." button, and send
the email that results. The attachment that is included has the info the
other people need to connect to your machine. If they have Sp1 preview, they
can just double-click the attachment and join without worrying about IP
address.

If your firewall is plug and play, then it should negotiate fine.

Chris, do you mean Universal Plug and Play? I don't see how an external
firewall could be regular Plug and Play.

Isn't UPnP a bit insecure? Can anyone give me a web site where I can
learn more about this new beast from both sides of the coin?
