How was YOUR Office 2003 sp1 Update Experience??

S

Spike9458

I'm toying with the idea of installing SP1 on my Office 2003 Pro ... what
have been your experiences with it? I'm always leary of updating, especially
when things seem to be running fine right now.

Any horror stories, or has it been a walk in the park?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

Mine was a walk in the park. I downloaded it and then installed, no
problems whatsoever.

I also did it again just last night when I installed XP SP2 on a disc
image. XP SP2 and Office SP1 seem to be getting along just fine too.

Scott.

Awesome, thanks ... my puter is a little sluggish since the update to XP sp2
.... but I'm still going to forge on and do the update for office2003.

Walk in the park with my laptop.
Same for SP3 for Office XP on my desktop.
Same when I discovered it was legal to install my 2003 over my XP.
Same when I installed SP1 on 2003 on my desktop.

Only minor hiccup is that on both installations, Outlook now shows two
Personal Folder entries, both with the same entries - and despite the
info in the MSKB I'm finding it impossible to delete the second
unwanted folder. Not that it matters - I just ignore the second one,
although only the first one will be updated.

See my 1 September 2004 thread "Caveat: Office 2003 SP 1" in this newsgroup.

Update experience is terrible
Having the same problem as you Howard - "Windows Installer not Available"
The problem manifests itself with both Office 2003 SP1 and XP SP2 installed:
Outlook says that Word is not properly installed and will use the default
editor
Excel asks for the Mail server to be restarted
You can't Uninstall or repair anything beacuse of the installer problem and
you can't repair the installer!!(nothing happens)

I will try the Safe mode trick now and see if that works.

Microsoft has really dropped the ball on this one - absolutely no help what
so ever!!!

OK - have gone into Safe mode and out and all is ok
I forgot to mention we have 3 PCs in the same situation

So far I haven't had any monumental issues. I did both XP SP2 and O2003 SP1.
One thing that doesn't work right now though is my signatures ... I have
mine setup as a marque, and either the sig shows up as a huge red X or it's
not there at all. Any ideas?

Yes we also have many PCs without a problem.
Having now read the earlier post: MOS 2003 should be *Pulled*....
it's disconcerting that the MS guys are talking about an uninstall-reinstall.
There needs to be a fix for this (I know someone is saying there are fixes
for just about everything BUT there isn't for this and Microsoft needs to do
something - perhaps like acknowledging that they've caused a problem directly
or indirectly)

When I mentioned the "boot to Safe mode" fix to MSFT tech support.
The response was, in effect, "I guess booting to Safe mode caused something
to be re-initialized".
Surely, MSFT can figure out what's going on.

The act of booting to Safe mode then, without doing anything else, booting
to Normal mode should not be a "fix" for any problem, at least not for a
problem that MSFT cannot know about.

The office service packs for Off2003 do not work!!!
Keeps looking/asking for a file which never existed.
(SKU111.CAB)
Look on all my CD's, even older versions of Office/front
page - no luck.
Then after I cancel it crashes my EXCEL2003.
Have to re-install/repair again, tried this many times -
no luck.
Also looked on internet - many many people reported the
same problem. Oh, by the way, Microbrainsoft Techs say
there is no problem. HELLO< wake up and do some work and
fix it!!
-Also don't bother with winXP SP2 if you have Norton
installed - it keeps it from working. Fixed problem by
uninstalling all SP2's..!!
Good luck,
John

I have the same problem.
Also the installer keeps popping up now too and I have cancel it all the
time.
Why won't Microsoft publish the missing file so it can be downloaded and
installed? Is that too much to ask?
What a crock of shit.
