howtochange individual country colours on maps imported toPowerpoi

I have imported 2 maps for a powerpoint presentation. I want to edit them by
changing the colours in individual countries and giving certain areas a
colourwash. One map is in colour already, the individual countries in
different colours. As it is a bitmap, I have been instructed to use Microsoft
Paint and have done so but I am not successful in changing the colours. The
other is an outline (black & white) but I can't colour that one either.

The outline one might ungroup, depending on what file type it is. Select it,
then click Draw|Ungroup. You may have to ungroup a few times to get to the
individual country level.

As for the bitmap one, you can't edit its colors in PPT, you need to use an
image editor such as MS Paint. Perhaps someone here can explain how to
change colors in MS Paint. They probably need to know more about what you're
having trouble with, though, as "not successful" can cover a wide range of
issues.

Alternatively, see if one of these clips on Mary Sauer's site will be
appropriate. http://msauer.mvps.org/graphics.htm These are WMF format, so
you can ungroup these and change the colors in PPT.

http://office.microsoft.com/clipart/default.aspx?lc=en-us has more. Typing
Continent into the search engine there gave me Africa, Europe, Australia,
and Sout America in easily ungroupable format. Download and insert onto the
slide, hit Draw|Ungroup, say yes when prompted that it's an imported
picture, then Draw|Ungroup again.
