HP LaserJet 1000 not print locally in Excel

A user has a local HP LJ 1000. It is her default
printer. Excel will not print to it. Word and other
Office applications will. If from Excel she chooses File-
Print-and selects another network printer, it prints.
Then she goes back to print from the HP 1000 and it
works. If she closes Excel, it will lose the default
printer again. why?

It is driving me nuts!
