This problem is very involved. For my job I must use an
Overlay program to overlay several graphs. Then I have to
be able to edit them in Word, to make them easier to
view. I used to use a HP Colorpro plotter with "file" set
as the printer port. These files were in the HPGL
graphics language (.hgl)
The problem happened when our workstations were converted
to XP. First of all, WOrd 2002 doesn't come with HPGL
support, so I downloaded the HPGL filter form
Microsoft.com. This let's me inset old files, but not new
ones into Word. The new files, when inserted, show up as
a small black, or colored (depends on the printer driver I
use) box. The problem appears to be with the printer
driver. XP doesn't come with the HP Colorpro driver, and
HP doesn't support that plotter anymore. I started
testing the plotters that XP does have the drivers for,
but Word still can't get the pictures right. I had
someone look at the new files to see what they are. He
said they were claiming (in the code) to be HPGL2 format
and that is probably why Word can't read them.
My questions are as follows. Where can I get either an
HPGL2 filter, or a PCL-5 filter, or the old driver for the
HP Colorpro, and will these things solve my problem.
