htaccess conflict with fp extensions and joomla htaccess file

Hello,

I have a problem. I have a server with frontpage extensions that I use all
the time, I need frontpage extensions. I also was building a joomla site in
a directory ( not in the root of the site).

When It was finished my developer tried to move the joomla site into the
root but there was a conflict between the htaccess file of joomla and the
htaccess file of the frontpage extensions of the server. When you fixed one,
the other could not work correctly (in particular the SEF urls were not
working in joomla). We only found ONE reference to a fix for this in this
page:

http://forum.mamboserver.com/showthread.php?s=4d90e1f9179dbfe670261a78bd9fc36a&p=288860#post288860

but it is not clear at all what this person did... or how we can do it
another way....

if anyone knows of a solution to somehow combine the 2 or another way to
make them work together it would be of great help to me.

Thank you in advance

I think that is to be expected as the two things don't run hand in glove
together.
I know on Unix (Linux) systems if you have say the 'protected folders'
option turned on through Cpanel, you can't have the FP extensions installed
at the same time - it is a case of "either, or".
