HTML formatting is lost in custom Outlook Stationary. Why?

I have created custom Outlook 2003 Stationary in Word and FrontPage. I use
different fonts, insert GIF pictures for my signature and have links in my
disclaimer. When I choose the stationary as my default, it appears without
any formatting (no color, no font changes, no GIF)... What could cause this
or how might I create custom stationary and use it in Outlook with the custom
formatting?
