HTML gibberish

Just within the past week I have been receiving HTML emails with the image placeholders (prior to downloading pictures) in gibberish. Looks like what happens when an international font is forced into English. Today the problem was not just in the image placeholder, but throughout the email contents.

Text is gibberish.

In addition to trashing the com.microsoft.browserfont.cache, you can also
try trashing the tasmanbrowser.cache, which will be found in your
~/Library/Caches.

I've had the same problems. Removing those did not resolve it. And I
tried: http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/bad_font.html too.
I'm Ent 2004 11.3.3 and OS 10.4.11) And restarted several times. It's
really one internal author of these HTML emails that display
incorrectly ONLY on my set up. Would having them "set" his text
differently make the difference? How then? Thanks!

They could be using a Font that you don't have. I believe you should see a
font substitution, but it sounds like you are getting gibberish when it
does.

Ask them what fonts and check to see if you have them installed. I would
tell you to have them send plain text, but they probably wouldn't.

What happens when you toggle HTML off for the messages?

The text is legible. But the handy formatting is gone. I'll ask about
the font used.

The font is not specified by the sender' sys. The other Ent users
(11.4, 10.1.4, 11.3.6) don't have the same problem. I think living
without HTML email will be the answer. Thanks for the help.

If the user is using Entourage, then the fonts are specified in the
Entourage preferences. Check fonts there and see what he or she has set for
HTML fonts. Then change it to something most people have, like Arial,
Verdana, or Times New Roman.
