HTML messages showing up as plain text

Terry

I have a problem where emails from several sites are showing up as plain text
and not html but not all html messages are plain text. So here is an example:

websites A, C, D send me an html email and I see all the html content
correctly
websites B & E send me an html email and all I see is plain text.

Any recommendation on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated

Why is it that none of the MS MVP's out there ever have an answer for this
question. I and several others have asked it in several different forums and
I have never seen any one answer. Is it just to hard of a question or does
no one want to take the time to try and figure it out.

I will try and explain in more detail what is happening. So I use gmail for
all my mail and I am forwarding everything. Most HTML email comes through
just fine (i.e. Boarders.com, newegg.com)but there are several sites that I
get email from on a daily basis (buy.com, homedepot.com) that are always
plain text.

So my question again is, is there some setting that I need to change to get
these emails to show up properly. If I view them on gmail.com everything is
perfect so it seems that something within Outlook is causing the problem.

Thanks and sorry for ranting.

There is no one answer. Any number of things can cause it. The promary cause
is scanning your incoming mail with some kind of antivurus or -spam
application, like AVG, or BullGuard.

Brian,

So let me understand what you just said about virus scanning can effect
incoming html messages.

I send an html message to myselfk created in word 2007 through outlook 2007.
I check my sent message and the format looks good. When the message comes
back to me all the html has been stripped out and displays as text only, no
formating.

I am using AVG, so is this the culprit? If so is there any effective way an
email can be created with MS Word 2007 and sent so that most if not all email
clients with virus protection will display the message correctly in HTML?

Thanking you in advance.

I suspect so, since AVG 8 has been doing that lately. Some people say that
disabling the certification message (i.e., "This message is virus-free") that
AVG supplies is enough to cure the problem, but there is no reason to scan
mail at all. Uninstall AVG and reinstall it without the mail scanning
feature.

No. Each antivirus program hooks into Outlook in similar ways, but each
massages the message in different ways. If I really want my message to get
through to all to whom I sent it, I use Plain Text. If I want to guarantee
that I'll properly receive anything someone sends, I never install a mail
scanner.

Brian,

Thanks for your help. I disabled incoming mail scanning on AVG and the
problem went away.

Thank you thank you thank you, this has been bugging me for SO long! I
turned off AVG scanning on incoming email and now it all works just as
expected. Very helpful!
