HTML not viewable

Version: v.X
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel

Most received messages in HTML are not readable. They simply have a long vertical line along left edge and the scroll bar indicates a huge message.

If I select reduce font size I see a the message in abnormally large font.

Similarly when trying to compose an HTML message I see the same line and otherwise can't see any text when typing. If I switch to simple text I can see what I wrote.

I have had to do a couple of advanced rebuilds lately that may have led to the problem.

I thought too it may be a virus??

It doesn't seem to be character set dependent.

Please Help.

I suggest going into Entourage > Preferences and checking your font setting
for HTML messages (proportional fonts). I use Arial in 14 point and I no
longer get complaints about text being too small or hard to read (as I got
when I used 12 point).

Exactly what version of Entourage X? Was it working in the past?

This sounds like some of the issues even in 2004 that were fixed in
Entourage 2008.

How to find version info:
I suggest going into Entourage > Preferences and checking your font setting
for HTML messages (proportional fonts).

This only affects messages he sends. The complaint is about received mail.

Let's test in a new User.

1) Drag a test message to your Shared Folder. "/Users/Shared"
2) Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.
3) Open Entourage in the new User (don't bother with the account setup)
4) Drag the test message from Shared and see what happens

If the message open OK, then the problem is in your User's folder.
If the message does not open, then it's a problem at the system level.

User folder fixes:

In addition to trashing the com.microsoft.browserfont.cache, you can also
try trashing the tasmanbrowser.cache, which will be found in your
~/Library/Caches.

If the above does not work, check for corrupt font caches. These can easily
be cleared from the system with Font Finagler. Download and run the
application. First click the "Inspect Font Cache Files" button, then the
"Clean Font Cache Files" button. You must then restart your Mac. Other
utilities that can clear your font caches are Cocktail, FontNuke and OnyX.

The complaint was about both received AND sent mail. I figured it was worth
trying to see if it at least fixed the sent problem.

...
Definitely a good idea.
