HTML Window can't close

T

tiangm

I have converted my PPT to HTML and within a webpage, I have hyperlinked with
another webpage. It all works fine except when I am trying to exit the
program. As I had viewed the HTML on full screen (slideshow), I have to press
ESC to go back to the web browser in order to close that window (click on the
red X on top right hand corner). However, I realise that when I have 2
webpages opened at the same time, I am unable to locate the red X to close my
webpage. So I ended up having to press alt+ctrl+delete each time - is there a
way to resolve this? Because I am passing copies of this webpage to others
and it would be weird to put the instructions to shut down as such.

Go to the online presentation found here: Making PowerPoint 2002 and 2003
HTML open full screen http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00428.htm There is
code listed there (which you can download) that will close the presentation
and take you back to the previous web page.

Sorry, I went to the link but I can't find the code you mentioned about. FYI,
I had used the same instructions to set it such that the web page opens full
screen. But there is no mention on how to close the presentation and take me
back to the previous web page - which is precisely what I need. Hope you can
enlighten me again - thanks!

I realise what the problem is - when my screen opens full screen, it doesn't
show the top bar (with the red cross). Unlike the example in this link
(Koerner's PPT to HTML Tutorial) which opens to full screen but has the
option to close the window.

For my full screen, somehow it opens completely to a full screen and there
is no navigation tool. So the only way to exit is to press the ESC key. How
do I follow the example listed in
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00428.htm to click anywhere to close the
window when it comes to "The End"??

M

Michael Koerner

The navigation arrows in my presentation, are part of the presentation. the
code for returning to your original page is in the download text that
appears towards the end of the presentation.

As far as the top bar goes, I get that also when I view the presentation on
line They are not there when I view the presentation from my HD. I did not
see them when I was using earlier versions of IE. I think it has something
to do with allowing pop-ups.

Is there a way that I can save my web page so that when it comes on full
screen, it comes with the blue top header which says "Microsoft Internet
Explorer" - it comes with the option to close the web page (red X on top
right hand side)?

Alternatively, if I set arrows in my presentation too particularly on the
last page, will that force the presentation to come to an end and close? Cos
right now I cannot close my web page when it is on full screen - I can only
press ESC to go back to the window browser. That is not so bad - except that
when I have 2 web pages running together, I won't be able to close the 2nd
window browser.. the only way is to press alt+ctrl+delete. FYI, I am using
PPT 2002.

I don't think it is a PowerPoint problem. Like I said When I show the
presentation from my web site, I get the bar on the top and bottom of the
screen When I show the presentation from my computer I get the full screen
version. with out bars. Could you provide us with a link to your
presentation?

Sorry - my web page is not put onto website so I can't send you any link. So
there is no way I can control how my web window looks when in full screen? I
was hoping it is a code that I can write into the script file so that the top
blue header can come on when it's on full screen - is that possible?

Put it on to your web site and then see if the bars do not appear. Like I
have said before when I view my presentation on my HD the screen is full
screen. when I view it on the web site the bars are there.

Unfortunately, my web page is intended for viewing via CD (ie, circulated by
CD, not by website) so if others can't close the window, I will have the
problem.

If 2 web pages are running at the same time, I notice that while I can
escape from the full screen using end show or ESC, I am unable to get out of
the 2nd window browser because I can't locate the close button (red X) and
would have to resort to using alt+ctrl+delete. Is there any other way to exit
then? Because it seems as tho the web pages have hung.

What I notice is that when I go "end show" and the full screen closes to
window browser, it doesn't follow the code that I've added in the close
window function. Is there another way to command the window to close?? Sorry
to be going on abt this - just that it seems pretty unprofessional now and
I'm really at my wit's end on this..

Put it on to your web site and then see if the bars do not appear. Like I
have said before when I view my presentation on my HD the screen is full
screen. when I view it on the web site the bars are there.

I have to ask why you have two web pages running at the same time? Are they
displayed side by side or one on top of the other?

When you publish your PowerPoint presentation to a web page, you could
remove the Allow navigation controls, this will put you into the Kiosk mode,
and will give you the browser toolbar. As far as digging deeper into
Microsoft's html coding is not rally in my area of expertise.

THANK YOU! Yes, this solves my problem because the kiosk mode is close to
full screen mode and it gives me the option to shut off the window without
having to go "alt+ctrl+delete". Anyway, the reason why I have 2 web pages
running is cos I hyperlink them and they are on top of each other. Finally, I
can sleep better now... thank you so much!
