Http transfer support

John W. Thomas

In the following article I read it says that I must use http transfers to
use either FrontPage or Publisher. I have web space on Adelphia and they
will not allow me to use http transfers. I am using Publisher 2000 and I was
about to go out and buy an upgrade or buy FrontPage. Does this mean that I
still will not be able to use some of the form functions because I can not
http transfer?

From David Bartosik Web Site
The most important thing to know when used FP extensions be it with FP or
Publisher is that they only work when you upload pages via HTTP "not" FTP.
You use the Web Publishing Wizard or the built in publishing features of FP
or Pub to upload as they do so in HTTP.

Any suggestions:

If you want to use the pre-built form processing functionality in either
Publisher or FrontPage, both of which use FrontPage extensions to provide
this, than you need to publish in the http protocol.

Optionally you can use your own processing program. These are widely
available on the web and most hosts provide them as well, typically in a
folder called 'cgi-bin'. Use of these programs to provide form processing
typically involves some coding, though a host may provide instruction. To
use you own such program in Publisher you select the option 'use a program
provided by my ISP' that is found in the form properties dialog. Use of your
own program removes the need to use FP extensions and removes the need for
http publishing.
