http: works with pc - not with mac

Mark

If I embed a hyperlink to a web site in Word on a PC it hits it fine through
IE. If I try it on Word X I get the following message:

"Cannot locate the Internet Server or Proxy Server"

I know it's a preference I need to check somewhere, but I'll be damned if I
can find it! I get a Web toolbar appearing - but I'd rather it opened in
Safari anywy.

Any ideas would be greatfully received!

Hi Mark:

Yeah, I think you may have inadvertently set a Base URL in your Internet
Options in Word.

Go to File>Properties>Summary and make sure the Hyperlink Base field is
blank. Also ensure that your Network settings are OK on the Mac.

If this is working correctly, Word simply hands off the call to the System,
which starts the default browser. So it should come up in Safari. Safari
is still a bit of a problem child, but most sites will work OK in it.

Cheers

Ah. I don't seem to have that option available (I am running Word X service
release 1 according to the box, but I know I am up to date with updates (for
want of a better phrase!) - does that make a difference?)

Hi Mark:

Sorry: If you can't find the Base URL option, then Word X doesn't have it
and that's not your problem.

There *was* an issue with Word X incorrectly translating Unicode characters
in URLs which I don't think was ever fixed. The net result was that the URL
Word was pumping down the line was bad.

Could it be that?

Please note: It may help to re-install Internet Explorer to make this work.
Word uses bits of IE to do its work.

Sorry: if you can give me more detail I might think of something else. Or
someone else might.

Send me an email directly, would you? I will send you one back requesting a
copy of the offending document. (No, don't try to save time by sending an
attachment in the first email: my email server is set to drop anything with
an attachment straight into the bit bucket -- I would never be aware that
you sent anything!) The email I send you will contain a password to disable
this mechanism.

Cheers
