Huge doc sizes when created from template

rmac

I'm currently using Office 11.3.6 but this problem dates back to when
I first started using this version 11. The problem is when I create a
Word document template in Mac, it works fine. When I take the created
template to Windows machine and create a document out of that, the
result is a huge document size. My template is one page document that
has one header image, PNG format and size of about 40 k. When I create
simple document of that template in Mac, the doc size is 68 k. When I
do the same on Windows, the result is a document that has size of over
2,0 MB!! If there any workaround to this problem since I would like to
finish the document templates using the same machine where all the
Adobe stuff is installed.

Let me guess - You put the image into the template by copy/paste rather than
Insert> Picture. If so the image *isn't* a PNG any longer. It was converted
to a Mac PICT which Windows can't display. When the template goes to the
Dark Side Word has to recreate it as an EMF and continues to store *both*
the PICT & the EMF, hence a larger file size.

Depending on other aspects of the template there may be more to it, but that
is most likely the prime single factor.

Actually, if the image really is .PNG, then it shouldn't convert on either
platform.

I wonder if he is afflicted with the "Stranded RTF" bug?

It might be worth copying all except the last paragraph mark into a new
template to see whether that fixes it.

Hope this helps
