Hundreds of pages of strange carachters

I recently wrote a document and saved it as usual and when I went to
reopen it ffor some reason the doccument was all mumble jumble and
hundreds of pages long. Also, now when i open the document it asks me
where I want to convert the file from. Is there anything i can do to
be able to open this document as it once was or do i need to rewrite
my entire Government paper? Thanks

If you are using File | Open to open it, make sure Enable is not set to
Recover Text from Any File.
