hyperactive alt command or something

I've been writing papers for 2 days straight on word and have been annoyed
every 5 minutes by word pulling down the file or edit menu. It is acting as
if I have pressed the alt button every 5 minutes, and I can guarentee that I
have not. The other problem that I'm having is that about once an hour, my
comp pulls up the MS office website. I've tried to block the website all
together but was unsuccessful. This has become an extreme annoyance.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Sounds to me like you have a dodgy ALT key that is partially stuck on or is
over-sensitive to the vibration of other keys being used or you are actually
accidentally pressing it.

ALT+some keys will drop down menus, Alt+Click will activate the Research
Pane (which is probably why Office Online is being activated)> Try a
replacement keyboard and test again.

That's what I was thinking, but the problem only occurs in word. I don't
think that makes sense.

could you tell me what it would be about speech recognition? I don't think
it's the bad alt key because the problem only occurs while I'm in word.
Thanks for your help.

Do you have Speech Recognition enabled? If so, it might be picking up some
sound in your environment. Some say it even picks up interference from
wireless mice, keyboards, etc.
