Grouping sheets allows you to do the same thing to the other sheets in
the group when you enter a value or a formula into a cell. It can be very
powerful and you can do things that you might otherwise use a macro for.
But for the same reason that it can save you time it can destroy your data
very quickly and you may not even be aware that you still have sheets grouped
so you might not notice the damage immediately.
Harvesting email addresses from newsgroups and from websites is
very common and very easy, and munged addresses are no problem
for spammers. But I refuse to capitulate to those that spam and those
that try to destroy things. So I use whatever my ISP will provide as
spam protection as my first line of defense then use my own filters.
I read my email and newsgroups with Outlook Express and have
mail and newsgroup rules in effect to further cut down on spam.
Would suggest that you get spam protection in place before switching
to using a valid email address, but I think if I did not use a real email address
it would be too cold and impartial for me instead of a friendly group
of people.

Many thanks for the reply! I had closed the file prior to my post. However, following your instruction for ungroup worked and I
can again edit and sort - maybe because I had no data on any other sheets?? Understanding groups seems to be beyond my current
level in Excel.
