The forwarded message below was sent to me privately and I am posting it
here so that the discussion stays where it might do others some good.
Hi Thomas,
I will be happy to reopen this subject with MS, but I will need more
information first:
1. What are your versions of the OS and Office/Word and is the latter fully
updated?
2. What is Westlaw? What is the URL of the site involved?
3. What is the origin of the Word docs you have been mailing to yourself?
(In Mark's case, it was a newsletter from the LA Times.)
Note that this may be a different problem altogether from the one Mark had.
He was unable to login because the cookies weren't recognized. You say you
are already logged in when the link errors. But get back to me with the
info above so that I can test this in Word 2001 and we'll see.

Subject: Hyperlink/cookie problem from newsgroup - resolved?!
I've just seen from the Word newsgroup that someone else was recently having
what I think is the exact same problem I'm having with non-working links in
Word documents - please see the April '04 thread in which you participated
at:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&threadm=#1Fn6
aIDEHA.2804%40tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl&rnum=6&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dsafari%2Bgroup:
microsoft.public.mac.office.word%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26group%3Dmi
crosoft.public.mac.office.word%26safe%3Doff%26selm%3D%25231Fn6aIDEHA.2804%25
40tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl%26rnum%3D6
I could not see that - or if - the higher level people at Msoft to whom you
passed your problem on to ever resolved the issue. PLEASE pass on any
information you may have received back from the über-techies at Msoft if
you'd be so kind.
My own problem - with Westlaw word doc links not getting through is as
follows - and I think very closely related to problems you discussed in that
thread:
I've been emailing myself MS Word docs of tons of research done on Westlaw.
When I try to click on the links in these Westlaw Word docs, however,
instead of going straight to the appropriate (citation) link in Westlaw (as
happens without a hitch on a Windows computer) I get an entirely erroneous
error message from the Westlaw site - even though I'm already logged in -
saying my browser lacks cookies and java scripting (same problem whether I
designate Safari, Explorer, Mozilla or Netscape as my default browser). I'm
running Panther (OSX10.3.4) with MS Word: Mac (as part of Office:Mac) on a
1gb titanium powerbook with 1 gb of RAM.
ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED AS THIS PROBLEM RENDERS WESTLAW -
AND INDEED WORD - QUITE UNACCEPTABLY LIMITED ON MY MAC! Best, TOM
