Hyperlink format in cross-references is invisible until I unlink

B

betty boop

I'm using Insert cross-reference command to include in-text references to
tables and figures. I insert these as hyperlinks. They are so inserted, but I
can't see the hyperlink formatting in the document. That is, I can't see the
formatting until I unlink the cross-references, in which case I cannot update
them.

It seems there ought to be a way to see the hyperlink formatting without
breaking my links. Any advice?

Word applies the Hyperlink character style to cross-references and TOC
entries but but suppresses it until you unlink them. There's no reason,
however, that you cannot manually format the link as blue and underlined
(Format | Font). You can even define another character style with these
properties and apply it.
