Hyperlink in Word X

I am using Microsoft's "Word X" for Mac running on Mac OS 10.4.11.
Suddenly, after having no difficulties with E-mail and web site
addresses appearing as normal hyperlinks (active links and showing up
in blue and underlined), they now show up as inactive links and appear
like this:
{HYPERLINK "mailto:[email protected]"}. What has happened and how do I
fix it??

You are just viewing Field Codes instead of Field Results, a minor toggle.

Hit Option-F9, and if that doesn't work, uncheck "field codes" in Word |
Preferences | View. (There's a similar box in Print prefs, if docs are
printing out with the codes).
