hyperlink pdf

In excel 2002 I am trying to link some pdf file to a cell using the
hyperlink. I.e. I wnat user to click and the pdf opens.

1 I have adobe reader 7.0 installed and it open pdfs OK. file ref seems ok
2. I get an error in excel 2002 (Office XP) professional "no program is
registered to open this file"
3. On another machine excel 2003 works fine

How do I get it to work in 2002 version? Or id this only supported in 2003
