Hyperlink redirect not clearing

Here's an odd one. A professor created a hyperlink to an external
website inside his Powerpoint 2004 presentation. The first time he
accessed the link, he was on our campus wireless network. He clicked,
it brought him to the authentication website (happens the first time
you try to access the network on our wireless), and then forwarded him
to the site. Each time, on the wireless, it worked fine thereafter.

He needs to teach in a room without wireless. So he hooks up a
network cable, checks his connection by going to the web (everything's
fine), then clicks on his Powerpoint link. Rather than going straight
to the site (there's no authentication site on wired connections), it
asks him to authenticate again. But then, the "forwarding" page
afterwards doesn't work and he can never make it to the site through
Powerpoint. He can escape from his presentation, and open a browser
directly to the site without issue, but Powerpoint seems to want to go
through the original steps of its first time linking to the site.

And...this happens wherever a link to this particular site is:
elsewhere in the presentation, in a new presentation, etc. It's like
Powerpoint has somehow saved too much information about the
hyperlink. But it's ONLY for that hyperlink...if I create a new one
right next to that one, it works fine.

So there must be a place in the library where Powerpoint stores some
sort of cache or routing information. In the brief time I had to
look, I didn't find anything. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Chris

Just a wild guess, but have you tried having him clear his browser cache?

Sure...even tried different browsers. Again, he can connect fine to
the site if he opens it up as a link from his desktop, or just types
in the URL. Only when he clicks on it in powerpoint does it seem to
try to go out through the wireless authentication route. It's pretty
strange.

Thanks,

Chris
