Hyperlink relative address not working

I have created a drawing with hyperlinks to other word and excel docs which
work perfectly when published if I uncheck the 'use relative path for
hyperlink' box. However they do not work if I use the relative path.

This was not a problem while my drawing remained on my machine because I
could use the specific address, but as soon as I transferred it to a portable
storage device ie, memory stick, it meant I had to change every link so that
the path led to the supporting documents transferred to the stick.

Is there a way round this? Can anybody help?
