Hyperlink, setting base address

I have an excel file with hundreds of entries that need to be hyperlinked to
photos that are all in the same folder. I want to set the base address to
the folder so it comes up automatically when I right click the cell and enter
the hyperlink window. Instructions say to add the path in the
Properties--Summary window, but this does not work. Nothing it seems. If I
could change the default directory somehow, maybe that would come up in the
hyperlink window. Any suggestions appreciated.

I'm not sure what you're expecting to happen.

When I make the hyperlink base the path to my pictures folder:

file:///Users/je/Pictures/

I can then type in

Picture1.jpg

in the hyperlink dialog's "Link To:" box, and, when clicked, the

/localhost/Users/je/Pictures/Picture1.jpg

file will open when the hyperlink is clicked.
