hyperlink to a Named Range in an Excel 2007 file from PowerPoint 2

Using the hyperlink to a file option and then adding a #Named range "name"
process, I am able to access the spot in the workpage I'm looking for in
Excel.
However, after I save the PowerPoint file , and re-opened it, the #named
reference is gone. The Excel filename and path are there, but not the Named
range.

I've tried the following suggestions I've seen on other sites:

Excel and PowerPoint are in the same folder.
Presently it's on a local PC
I've removed the checkmark on update links on Save under Advanced WEb
Options File. (even though it's not a web issue)
and Uploaded the most recent Office Service Patch (1), thinking item 938539
was this issue.

PowerPoint Version (12.0.6211.1000) SP 1 MSO (12.0.6213.1000)
Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 version

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Nothing wierd ... actually, the named cell is "tab" ...

Basically, using PowerPoint as a type of proof of concept tool in this
instance and from a sample menu, hyperlinked to a sample page in excel.

I've tried this using both a path and just the excel filename. The
PowerPoint file and Excel file are in the same folder.
As I mentioned, it works GREAT until I Save the PowerPoint file with the #

example would be c:\data\folder\test.xls#tab

Tab is also named for the Workbook not just a worksheet. (though I did try
to limit it to a worksheet using #sheet1!tab .... again, worked until I saved
the PowerPoint file. The path/excel filename is retained, everything from the
#on is removed.
