hyperlink to an .mp3 file; can I prevent mp from displaying?

When I use a .mp3 as page background music, there is no interference from the
Media Player - it does not display itself, just plays the music.
However, when I hyperlink to an .mp3, Media Player comes up and then plays
the music. How do I prevent Media Player from overlaying my page?
