Hyperlink to "Other File" problem

I have a ppt set up with a hyperlink that launches a .doc file. I have
the "Action Setting" set to "..\docs\name.doc" It locates the docs
directory and finds the file.

I have burned this project to a CD, but when the client clicks on the
hyperlink to launch the .doc file, it can't find it because it is looking
for the file on my local computer at: "c:\clients\docs\name.doc"

WHy is it searching for the entire path on my computer? What do I have to
change so it only looks for the directory on the CD? Thanks!!

If you want to make sure all links will work (especially off the CD), make
sure the document is in the same folder as your presentation BEFORE you link
to it. That way no matter where you transport all files to (CD, other
folder/drive, etc.) the links will work. With that said, you will need to
move the files into the same folder as your presentation, relink to them
using your Action Settings, then burn it to a CD.

Bill, I want to be sure I understand your advice. This is how I have my
folders set up in my CD and on my computer:
-------------------------------------
MainPage (folder)
- ethiconMain.ppt (working powerpoint file w/links)

Performance Management (folder)
- (related ppt's and .doc's)

Sales Associate Development (folder)
- (related ppt's and .doc's)

Selection and Retention (folder)
- (related ppt's and .doc's)

ethiconMain.pps (exectable file to launch presentation
--------------------------------------------
I have the hyperlinks set to look in one of the other 4 directories for the
doc files needed. It is set up this way since there are so many files under
different catagories. It was set up this way before I linked all the doc
files. Are you saying it won't work unless I have my working ppt file in
the exact directory as my .doc files? I am afraid if I do that now, all the
other links I have set up will break (in the other folders). Thanks for any
help here.

In your case, you should be able to get away with sub-folders, but not
peer-folders. That is, right now, you have your PowerPoint file in a folder
and your linked files in other folders. If you move all those other folders
into the PowerPoint folder and relink, everything should work. That is main
folder contains ethiconMain.ptt and Performance Management (folder) and
Sales Associate Development (folder) and ...

Thanks for filling in. Was out all afternoon (working on a different type
of "links")! HA!
