Hyperlink to slideshow

I have a hyperlink to a PowerPoint 2007 slideshow on my website. (FYI - the
file extension for the slideshow is "pptx" since it was created using the
2007 version of PowerPoint). When users click on the link I would like it to
just start playing the slideshow and not force the users to save the
slideshow first. How can I accomplish this?

If you save it as a slideshow that's how it should work. According to

you should be using .ppsx or .ppsm as the file extension in PowerPoint 2007.

Okay. I tried using PPSX file. When users click the link to play the
slideshow they get a "File Download" dialog box in which the only option is
to "SAVE" instead of allowing them to choose "OPEN" to just play the
slideshow. Also, there is an error message at the bottom of the "File
Dowload" dialog that says: "The file you are downloading cannot be opened by
the default program..." The users computer is running PowerPoint 2007 and we
checked the Windows file associations and found them to be correct. Any ideas

You probably need to have ppsx and ppsm to the mime types configured on your
server, so the browser knows what to do with it. Ask you web host or server
admin.
