Tim::..

Can someone please tell me how I create a hyperlink in a data graphic?

I am using an external data source to populate my shape data and would like
one of the fields within the shape data to be a hyperlink. Is this possible?

If so how do I create the data link? I have tried typing the link but it's
just returned as text can someone please help!

Thank you!

Tim,
I don't think that you mean Data Graphics because they are just used for
visual representations of the data.
If you create a table, view or spreadsheet with values that are valid
hyperlinks, thn the Link Data to Shapes feature will create them as
hyperlinks on the shapes.

For example, a spreadsheet with these thre columns created two shapes, each
with two hyperlinks on them:
Serial Number Hyperlink1 Hyperlink2
S01 http://www.bvisual.net http://www.nexans.com
S02 http://www.ctms-uk.com http://www.microsoft.com

Hi David,

Thank you for your mail...

Is it possible to create a link in the Shape Data Window? I want to do this
mainly due to the fact that I want to save the visio diagram as a web site
and have the link point to a document library relating to this particular
shape???

Thanks again!

You cannot use the Shape Data window to edit hyperlinks directly.

You create hyperlinks with Insert / Hyperlink (or CTRL+K) , however you will
probably want to use the ShapeSheet to edit the NewWindow cell value to
TRUE, otherwise the link will open in the same browser.
You can also edit the formula for the hyperlink address and description to
point to another cell, such as a Shape Data value.
If you do this in a master, then the shape instances can point to different
links because the shape data values are different.

I have the same question as myatix.

David, it sounds like Visio hyperlinks cannot be edited through a database.

IF the only way to edit hyperlinks is the clunky ctrl-k pop up then Visio loses a lot of its attraction. The maintenance overhead of maintaining a web page with a lot of links could easily outweigh the efficiency gains of the graphical presentation.

I did not understand how your suggestion to address to another cell resolves the problem.
