Hyperlink won't work

I use word 2000 in Windows XP home...as far as I know all updates have
been loaded into both word and xp. I use IE6, too.

I cannot get a hyperlink in word to a particular live web site to
work. I can create a link to other sites, but this one site will not
work...but the site is live and I can get there directly from IE6.

When I create the link, it opens ie6 and puts up the address but the
page does not load...I only get the "Page cannot be displayed" page.
But, if I manually hit the enter key with the IE6 window still open
and with the url sitll int he address window, now it works.

Some IE6 setting may be off...but I cannot tell what or why or whether
there is something about word hyperlinks I may be missing. Since
bookmarks, internal hyperlinks, and links to other sites work...and
the problem site is working.....I AM STUMPED!!!!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Two other points. When the "page cannot be displayed" page comes up,
hitting refresh gets me to the right web site. Any ideas on why this
one and all others are different??

This is a real long shot, but I find that links to sites that redirect don't
work. Is it possible that the site you're linking to is redirecting to
another URL?
