hello all
i have MS pub 2003 and i am having trouble getting file hyperlinks to
work.
the file links on my website are going to my hard drive and not my
webserver - the files are not uploading.
ive serched this group and it seems the strategy is to create a folder
on my server and then link to that.
but i dont know how to upload these files to this folder. could
someone give me the specific steps to do this?
so far i:
clicked on publish to the web
opened my ftp location with my password
and created a folder called downloads
but how to get the files there?

thank you so very nuch

I'm not familiar with pub 2003; I'm a Pub 2000 user, website builder.

The files you want to make available to your visitors need the Hyperlinks
directed to your website. I suggest your create a folder on the server for
files that are to be downloaded. This will help prevent them from being
deleted during your website maintenance. Make a folder that suites you; I
have one named downloads.

When your create the hyperlinks to the files that are to be downloaded use
the path
/downloads/filename.pdf (I'm assuming, suggesting they will be pdf files)
and upload them into the downloads folder. A ftp (file transfer program) is
needed to upload the files. A very nice one is Filezilla. Avoid the new
version 3.0.4 for it is not as complete as version 2.2.32.

Get Filezilla 2.2.32 here:
http://filehippo.com/download_filezilla/changelog/?2512
And the Critical Security update here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla

You don't want anything pointing back to your hard drive unless you're going
back to the "good ol days" of BBS's.

Good luck.

Matt.
Sorry for jumping in here, not sure really want is required by you, but the
way i make a link, is to open my server folders, make a new folder and while
it is open drag the files i want into it.
Below i have provided 2 x ways to make a link to them files.

1: Is a hyperlink way which will open a new window, inserted by just copy &
pasteing in to your add hyperlink (CAN BE ADDED TO TEXT OR IMAGES).

javascript:Show('http://www.breladecockerspaniels.co.uk/','newwindow','')

2. Will place text on your page as a link >Enlarge image< can be cahnged to
say read here / open here etc. This is inserted by using Insert HTML code
fragment, then moved to where you want on th page.

Hi Don,

Just curious why you like the older version of FileZilla better than the
newest? You said it is not as complete...what features have they taken away?
Thanks.

Good morning David,

Version 3.0.4 seems to be the latest and 'just verified is still in
development.*
The "panes" aren't capable of listing the files in "List" mode as with
earlier versions. It displays the files in "Detail" mode using up all the
space in the panes and then forcing the you to scroll in order to see all
the files in a folder. There may be other issues but I went back to 2.2.32
as soon as I verified the View issues. I've been watching the FileZilla
website to see if a later version has been made available but none at this
date.

Version 2.2.32 has the multiple viewing options, works (for me) flawlessly
and should per the advice of the FileZilla folks update to the "Critical
Security Update" 2.2.32 version at http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla

*From FileZilla website:
"The primary new feature of 3.0.0 is the ability to run under multiple
platforms. FileZilla 3 does not only run under Windows, but also under
Linux, *BSD, Mac OS X and many more. In addition, the internals of FileZilla
have been streamlined and modernized.

To accomplish this, FileZilla 3 has been completely rewritten from scratch
during the past three and a half years.

Unfortunately not all features currently implemented in the old 2.x versions
could make it into 3.0.0. However most of them will be implemented in a
future version. In addition, FileZilla 2 and 3 can coexist on the same
system in case you depend on a feature currently in 2.x"
