Hyperlinking to a new window

Ron Fong

Hi:

When inserting a hyperlink, is there a way to automatically launch the link
into a new window? In Front Page, it is possible through the Target Frame
box; however, I don't see that option in Word.

I'm aware that one can right-click a hyperlink within Word, and select "Open
in New Window", but I need it automatically launched when clicking on the
link.

Thanks!
Ron

Yes. Add the \n switch to the Hyperlink field. See Word's Help under "Field
codes: Hyperlink field."

That works, thanks.

I have another issue. If I save that Word doc (with hyperlinks) as a Web
page/.htm file, can a separate window be launched? I added the \n switch,
but the link opens in the same window.

I appreciate your help and patience.

Suzanne:

I apologize for not mentioning that the issue involves Word 2000 (my
workplace is still using Office 2k). It doesn't occur in Word XP as I
discovered on my home pc. The frame target option is available when
inserting hyperlinks into the .doc, and a saved .htm version provides a
separate browser instance when the link is launched.

If you have access to Word 2000, can you look into this? I'm truly sorry
for not disclosing the Word version in the beginning. I'll wait patiently
for your reply.

I'm afraid I don't have access to Word 2000 (hmm--actually, I guess it's on
my husband's machine, but...), and I have never used it. Perhaps someone
else who has Word 2000 installed can answer this? What happens if you
hand-edit the HTML?
