Hyperlinks got weird

I working with Word 2003.
Somehow (may be due to cleaning keyboard while computer was running)
my hyperlinks in text body appears in curly brackets and not active anymore,
i.e. looks like {HYPERLINK 'http://www.yahoo.com ....}.

Also my tab ruler which supposed to stay overhead of text has been
switched to "auto-hide" mode. It appears only if mouse pointer stays
for while at the top of text body.

Please advise how to return everything back,
system restore and Office reinstallation failed to help.
