Hyperlinks in Word 2003 no longer work

When hovering over a hyperlink in a Word doc, I get the tip to use CTRL +
click to follow it. When I do, I get a message "Unable to open [website].
Cannot locate the Internet server or proxy server." If I save that same
file as an html file from Word, then reopen it in word, the hyperlink works
fine, without control clicking.

Word is the only office app the behavior occurs in. I've found several
posts in newsgroups and searching Google about this problem, but haven't
seen any resolutions. I'm using Office XP home and Office XP. I run
McAfee's Anti-virus and their Personal Firewall Plus. I have an always on
Internet broadband connection through a Belkin router. This is the only
problem I have anywhere with hyperlinks.

Can anyone offer any help?

Thanks Dave

Hi, Dave,

You say Word 2003, then you say Office XP. Which version of Word are you
using: 2003 or 2002 (XP)?

Did this ever work?

Have you tried disabling the McAfee tools to see if it will work?

If you change this setting, do you see any different results:

- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Edit tab.
- Clear the Use CTRL+ Click to follow hyperlink check box.

Have you tried to repair your Office (Word) installation?
