A customer has a document in word with hyperlinks that looks like this:

file:///T:\bestek.alg\aanbestedingsreglementen\uar2001.pdf

when the document is mailed to me the hyperlink changes to:

file:///c:\documents\Documents and Settings\derksj\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files\Content.Outlook\ZHJ9DVD8\aanbestedingsreglementen\uar2001.pdf

is this some setting?

Are you saving the document to disk before opening it?

Try Tools > Options > General > Web Options > Files > uncheck 'update links
on save'
or in Word 2007
Word Options > Advanced > General > Web Options > Files > uncheck 'update
links on save'

Hi Derksj,

It's usually better to save the document first and then open it from Word, especially if you plan on editing it and saving the
changes.

In this case if that's how the link looks when you're opening the document Word is looking for the attachment in the location the
file is opened, your temporary email/browser files cache.

Graham's suggestion can help but you may also want to turn off Word's Option settings that updates links on opening of a document.

Getting the link to another document, in this case a PDF file, that has a file:/// link can depend on whether the file is actually
attached, if you have access to the same computer as the email sender. It's pointing a file on the hard drive, but it may not be
your hard drive.
