Hyperlinks resetting to slide 1

I'm using office 2004 with all the recent updates on a Mac g5 with
system 10.4.7.

i've several large presentations (70-90 slides) with extensive
menu-like hyperlinks to take users to other parts of the presentation.
This is in preparation for moving the PPT to Windows to narrate and
publish using Articulate. This we've done sucessfully for several
years.

until today.

Today, upon loading one of my presentations, i noticed all the
hyperlinks (about 150) had reset to slide one. i tried updating the
links but again after saving, closing, and loading again, the links
were again set to slide one.

yes, i've repaired permissions.
Yes, i've removed office and reinstalled it again.

i then made duplicates of my other large presentations and opened them.
Many of these hadn't been open for months, so i'm certain they were
clean. Again, on the mac, all hyperlinks were set to slide 1.

Here's where it gets more wierd.

i ported a duplicate of the older file over to my windows laptop
(office 2004) and the original links were all in place.

so, at this point, i don't know if this is a corrupt file problem, or a
problem with the mac powerpoint program. To check if this was just my
computer (a g5), i ported the file over to my G4 laptop. The same
problem occurred. all links were reset to slide 1.

here's one more piece of info: I began today also that when i attempt
to copy an action button (like a home key), the PPT crashes and must be
reopen.

i notice there was another thread in August about his problem, and that
MS had uncovered the problem. The September update doesn't seem to fix
it though.

anyone have suggestions?

Microsoft broke this two updates ago and didn't fix it in the last
update. Apparently not everyone has the problem. Most of us using this
feature reverted to 11.2.4. Uninstall and reinstall Office and don't
apply the updates. You can find 11.2.4 on their website somewhere if
you want to update to that but don't apply the automatic updates.

Steve,

thanks. i'm learning that MS breaks more things than they fix in their
updates. A year ago, their updated broke my Entourage connection to our
Exchange server, and it's never been fixed. i appreciate the reply and
i'll reinstall again.
