hyperlinks to bookmarks on a page

I'm using publisher 2007. On my accommodation page I have a side bar with
hyperlinks to bookmarks on the page. When the page is viewed in Safari the
links are not working proberly. When you click on the passport hyperlink,
you go to the Hotel bookmark. Taxi limo you go to pasport link. The only one
that works is hotel.

I looked again in the publisher and how to and made sure that I was making
them correctly, and I am.

Any idea why this browser is not understanding the bookmark code?

my site is www.unite2010.ca

The problem is not fixed on Safari. That is what I do not get? I removed
all bookmarks added them again. They were all in the right place to begin
with and still, for my mac friends it does not work. I'm not sure what it
reads the links as but it sends you to weird places. Bookmarks, but not the
one you want. It seems now that my only option is to create new pages for
some of the bookmarks and then make everyone scroll down the page for others.
Or put a note that Mac users may experience problem using the sidebar links.
Any other thoughts?

The PDFs work, once the color in textbox was fixed, but I will move them to
the new directory.

Thanks for your help

Just one more glitch. My friend has a contact at Apple and I might send it
his way to act now that it seems to be a Safari thing.

This morning I see that you have fixed this issue on
http://www.unite2010.ca/index_files/ACCOMMODATION.htm by I assume by moving
the bookmarks/anchors to the appropriate place on the page. That is the only
logical explanation for the links to take you to the wrong place on the
page...you had the anchors switched. All links work properly in both IE and
FF and thus I am sure work correctly in Safari.

I also notice that you also fixed the color filled text box being converted
to an image and killing the link on your home page and the other grouping
issues I pointed out, as per your last post.

One thing you asked about last time that I did not comment on was your issue
with the pdf files. Right now it appears that you are putting your pdf files
into the index_files folder within a folder called 'pdfs' as per this link:
http://www.mts.net/~hserger/index_files/pdfs/orffsponsorship.pdf I would
suggest that you move the 'pdfs' folder to the same directory level as the
index_files folder and the index.htm file. Otherwise every time you update
the index_files folder you will also have to upload the pdf files again.
Then the link would be: http://www.mts.net/~hserger/pdfs/orffsponsorship.pdf

The bookmarks work in IE7, FireFox3 and Opera, so this would be the first
time when something did not work in Safari when it worked in the other three
browsers. I assume that you do not have Safari installed yourself, so have
your friends refresh the page and try it again. If they still have problems
then ask them which version of Safari they are using and I will do some more
testing. I don't have Safari installed, and really don't want to install it,
but can do it on a test machine if necessary, but I just don't see any
possible way the links could take them to anything other than the designated
anchors...but I could be wrong...it wouldn't be the first time. Report back
please.

I just went to the Safari download page and notice they have a beta version
out. Please do ask your friends what version they are using. I don't want to
waste time downloading and installing the wrong version....if indeed they
still are having problems.

The version is Safari 3.2.2. I have it also downloaded since I was having
problems. And yes the page has been refreshed many times. Accomodation page
is the worst. The "top of page" hyperlinks also send you to weird bookmarks.

Yes David,
It seems to fail for me too in Safari 5 Public Beta(528.16)

On the Accommodation Page It more or less goes to the top of the page
rather than the bookmark down the page.
On the Related Links page it goes to the bookmark below the one called and
the Top of Page works OK.

For Serg...
The Top of Page Link should consistently be on the left so that if you got
to the wrong subject it is not much mouse movement to got back to the top.
Constancy makes for happier readers.

Serg,

Sorry, I am obviously wrong, and you get the gold star today, albeit a bit
tarnished star ;-). With John G confirming your experience, I googled
'Safari anchor tags' :
http://www.google.com/search?q=Safa...-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1
and apparently you are correct. Safari does not support anchor tags, and
apparently this is a universal problem and not unique to Publisher webs. I
read a few of the links but didn't come across any fixes, but you might try
some of them. I might download Safari and do some testing some day, but not
in the near future. I think the next browser I will test will be
Chrome...also not in the near future.

So now you face a choice. Do you give up on the anchors and remove them
because they don't work for +/-3% or less of the people that use Safari to
view your site, or do you leave them in there knowing that they do work for
IE6, 7, 8RC1, FF, and Opera at least, and that amounts to +/-92% of the
people that will view your site.
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp That is up to you.

Thanks for the education.

Thanks John G. Apparently Safari does not support anchor tags...see my
response to Serg.

Thanks for all your help! I guess this will change some things. And thanks
for the stats. It helps in making a decission. 3% I could live with that.
