Hi David:
OK, I need you to reveal the field code and tell me what you see in there.
To do this, right-click one of your hyperlinks and choose "Toggle Field
Codes" from the menu. You should see a code like this:
{ HYPERLINK \l "FDDI" }
I need you to read a couple of help topics:
"Create a hyperlink" and
"Field codes: Hyperlink field"
There are two ways to create a hyperlink. One is to follow the instructions
in that first help topic. Which I found incomplete and confusing. The
other is this:
1) Go through the document and add a bookmark to each destination that you
want the user to arrive at by clicking a hyperlink.
Make the names descriptive so you will know which is which, and do NOT
include any spaces if you want them to work in web applications other than
Word. (Actually, I don't think Word will allow spaces in a bookmark
name...)
2) Navigate to the place where you want to add the first hyperlink.
3) Either follow the instructions in the first help topic exactly, or:
A) Hit Command + F9
B) In the field bounding characters that appear (they look like braces, but
they're not...) type the word HYPERLINK followed by a \l (back-slash and
lower-case l for link) then the name of your bookmark in quotes.
Note that you're doing a bit of computer coding here, so spaces and quote
marks are important: you must lay it out like this:
{ HYPERLINK \l "FDDI" }
C) Right-click the field and choose Toggle Field Codes to see the result.
When you're used to it:
1) Select the text you want to turn into a link
2) Hit Command + K
3) Click Locate and choose the name of the bookmark you want the hyperlink
to go to.
That should work. If it doesn't, come back here and tell me what you have
in your HYPERLINK field code and I can tell you what's wrong.
Cheers
Am having a bit of aproblem with a Word file I've created and have set
hyperlinks to different Headers in the document.
The hyperlins work fine unti I save & close the file then they just
take me to the top of the document.
Anyone got any ideas??
Am using Word for Mac 2004 (Version 11.3)
Thanks
David
