I scan all of my bills and paperwork to JPG files and put a hyperlink to the
image file in an Excel spreadsheet. The file association for JPG files is
the Windows Picture Viewer. For years clicking the hyperlink brought up the
image in the image viewer. An update to Office 2003 broke this and then the
images opened in the browser. I fixed it in XP/Office 2003 by adding a
registry entry ForceShellExecute=1.
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Office \ 9.0 \ Common \ Internet)
However - I replaced the old PC with a new one preloaded with Vista-64 Home
and installed my copy of Office 2003, and I let the autoupdate install all of
the updates for Office 2003. And the old problem is back, clicking on the
link to the image file opens the image in the browser. BUT, there is no
....\Common\Internet key in the Vista registry.
HELP - I want the links to image files to open the images in the image
viewer, not the browser. Yes, the file types for images are associated with
the image viewer.
