Hyperlinks to other Word 2004 documents

I am trying to get a word document to hyperlink to another word document.
I can get it working when both documents are in the same folder, it
sometimes works when the document is in a subfolder of the source folder
but each time it is a folder at the same level of hierarchy or a higher level
folder you get the message

Cannot open the specified file

All file paths look ok and I have redone the links a number of times without
any luck.

you don't say which version of XL you have (you should have!), but I
know that I had occasional problems with Word v.X and relative links.

I just tried it out in Word2004, and it seems MacBU didn't fix the bug.
You can use the same solution as in the link, above.
