I have a number of network files that are likely to change location, but will
be referenced by hyperlinks in multiple documents and websites. I've created
the target content, and I've created shortcuts to the target content. I've
created hyperlinks in Word to the shortcuts. The shortcuts work when clicked
from windows Navigator and when referenced in IE and Firefox when linked in
HTML files.
When creating the hyperlinks in the Ctrl-K dialog, Word 2007 continuously
tried to replace the connection to the LNK file with a link to the source
itself. This is not acceptable, as the source files will move, and I don't
want to update all the Word docs everytime we move a file.
Ctrl-click on the hyperlinks causes Word to find the shortcut files (Word
pops up a dialog that warns about opening external content), but after
Okaying the popup, the target file (excel spreadsheet with Macros) is not
opened.
Using PDFMaker to create a PDF, the hyperlinks are also active (content
warning appears when clicked) but still will not open the target files.
Hyperlinks in Excel to the same shortcuts do NOT work, and fail in the same
manner.
Saving the Word file as a web page, the hyperlinks to the shortcuts in IE
work. The links in MSWord do not.
Has anyone experienced a problem like this? Does anyone know how to fix it?
