hyperlinks

I have been trying to creat a file with a hyperlink to a
pic that I could change weekly. (web page) The idea was
to only have to change the source file and keep the
document the same. The best that I have come up with is
under insert object, check the "linkobject box:" the
problem seems to be that word 2002 adds the pic to the
document and will not let me uncheck the "save pic to
document". I have tried pasting special, destination
files ect. Any ideas?

To insert a graphic in a Word .doc or web document
you can use Insert=>Picture and choose either 'from file'
or 'Clipart'.

If you want to leave the web document alone after
creating the first link then you can do so by replacing
the 'linked' graphic on your ISP/webhost with a new
graphic but with the same file name as what Word is
looking for from the original document.

If you want to have a hyperlink to the graphic or
to have a graphic with a hyperlink you can use
the Insert=>Hyperlink (Ctrl+K) dialog.

If you choose the first option (Insert | File), then you need to select
"Link to File" rather than Insert. Otherwise the picture will be embedded in
the document and won't update when you change the source.

Hi Suzanne,

Not necessarily true in this scenario. A graphic published
as a web page/document will (unless VML is doing the
graphic) be stored as a linked graphic. Replacing
the linked graphic on the website directly with another one
that you name the same will show the new graphic in
place of the old one.

I didn't get the impression that the user was creating a Web page, however.
I read it that he was creating a document with a link to graphic on a Web
page.
