Hyperlinks

I was doing some testing using the hyperlink (Ctrl +
Click to follow the link). I am finding out that if the
hyperlink is typed and/or pasted within Headers/Footers
the "Ctrl + Click to follow the link" does work. A
dialog appears "Cannot open the specific file".

In my experience with creating documents, forms,
templates, etc. several companies are now including their
web address in the Header/Footer area along with the
address/phone information which when sending documents
via email/Outlook then this link isn't effective.

Does anyone know about this issue? If so, can anyone
give some explanation as to how to work around this
issue? Is this a known issue in MS Word 2002? Please
let me know your thoughts.

Thank You,
T

Hi T.,

I'm assuming you're saying that it does not work?
The header footer information is in a separate 'layer'
from the text in the document. If you double click
the header that area will be active and the hyperlink
should then work. If Word is not setup to allow access
to the internet, or the underlying hyperlink is
to an invalid location (use Alt+F9 while in the header/footer
area to view the hyperlink) then you may receive the
message you mentioned. Having a firewall product
that hasn't had Word selected as an app to access the
internet is one cause of this.
