hyperterminal

Hi, I am a harware tech and one of my clients has just bought new medical
machines that communicate through serial ports to a PC. I have been able to
use hyperterminal to establish connections are working and sending all info
correctly. This is normally where my end of the job stops. However the client
has asked me to research a little for them as the machines did not come with
any software and the manufacturer simply suggests going to a local software
developer, only problem is, there are none. So this is my first port of call.
The client simply wants this data to flow into a database such as access,
could anyone direct me as to how this might be done? Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

You give no details but I would guess that this would be a rather
extensive project. If you have no experience with Access I would suggest
locating an Access consultant and he/she woud guide you through laying
out the project requirements and an estimated cost.

Software developers need not be local. We have the Internet now :)

HyperTerminal allows capture of data. Use it to capture the data then
open or import and parse the resultant text file with Access. You don't
mention
if this has to be done in real-time or not so I assumed (!) not.

Hi Tom thanks for that, about it having to be real time? short answer yes, long answer, I am not the person going to be doing this exercise, as I said I'm looking into it for my client, but if you could help me a little further I would be extremely greatful. I am trying to be as helpful to my client as I can be outside the boundaries of my knowledge.

Thanks again Tom
