Hyplerlink to itunes

I am trying to set up an on-line database of the songs my company
represents. I have a list of all our songs listed in a spreadsheet.
What I would like is for someone to be able to click on the song name
in Excel and have itunes open automatically and start playing the
actual song. I thought I could just insert a hyperlink, similar to if
I wanted a word doc to open. But, I keep getting the message, "Cannot
open the specified file," or "unexplainable error has occured." I
know the files are in my itunes folder and I know they work because I
listen to my itunes every day. Also, I've tried with itunes open and
closed and that doesn't seem to help either. Can anyone offer any
help?

Thank you,

I know it can work, because I just did it (OS X 10.3.4, XL04, iTunes4.6).

I assume these error messages are System error messages?

What happens when you double-click on a target file in the Finder?

One thing I would try is to repair your disk permissions - run the Disk
Utility from the Applications/Utilities folder.

I am trying to add hyperlinks to another word document, when the target
document is in the same folder as the source then it works but when it is in
another folder I get the same message Cannot open the specified file.
Not sure if it is related to your problem but the message is the same.

when you add a hyperlink to a file in any office document it places a
full path to the file into the document, if you move the document to
another location after saving and closing the application it will not
be able to find the file.

Also if the file path is too long it will not be able to find the
specified file, I have experienced this many times, in all office
products Win and mac alike.
