I am losing secondary info when saving vCards

K

Kerri

I am having a problem saving vCards. I fill in secondary info, save it as a
..vcf file; but when I open it, all of the secondary info is gone. Anyone have
any knowledge to share??

Do you? Like what this has to do with Outlook, and why, if you are using
Outlook you are using VCF files to transfer data.

I am trying to make a folder of vCards to send out to our "team" with peoples
primary and secondary information. Should I be saving them with a different
file extension?

Then send them the information as Outlook data so you won't keep losing
information. Create the Contacts in a folder that you save in an Outlook
data file.
Recipients will need to make sure they can access PST files:

Just some casual questions/comments (don't work with VCF so not really up on
all the idiosyncracies of using that format for data transfering):

Question

#1 - All else aside, what version(s) of Outlook is this going to encompass?
#2 - What exactly do you mean by "primary" & "secondary" info?
#3 - How are you filling in the "secondary" info that goes missing?
#4 - How are you opening the VCF file to determine that the "secondary" info
is gone?
#5 - Is this for a one-time transfer for each person or are you planning to
maintain "up-to-date" info for each contact using this approach?

Comments:

#1 - If you're planning for everyone to use Outlook to import (add) these
contacts - using VCF would be a very tedious process. Outlook saves one
contact per VCF irrespective of what is meant by "primary" & "secondary"
info requiring each VCF file to be brought in separately (which may be what
you want but ....).
#2 - If you're not using Exchange and this is a one time event - you can
a) just create a PST file with all the contacts in it and each
person can simply copy the contacts to their default contacts folder
b) create a CSV file with all contacts and each person can
import the file

or,
#3 - You may want to take a look at this 3rd party product (there are
others) that would make working with VCF a whole lot easier

I wonder, too, if just inserting the Contacts as an Outlook Item (not a
vCard) in an RTF message would work, since everyone is using Outlook.

Thanks to everyone for all their help on this... In the end, I just selected
all the contacts I was wanting to email and click forward and it worked! I
think that's where I was going wrong, I was selecting "forward as a vCard,
which I thought was the correct way to do it. Look what thought got me!! :))
Thanks again
