I get message "incorrect password." I am able to send mail.
I have checked with Demon my ISP. They confirm password and all else is correct. They say fault lies in my local set up but do not support mac.

Open Keychain Access application in Applications/Utilities folder. Run
Keychain First Aid. It's in the Keychain menu under Keychain Access. This
might fix the problem, if not, delete the entry for that account. You can
search for your ISP name "Demon" or a keyword in your password.

Go to Entourage, select 'Accounts' from the Tools menu, choose the account
that was giving you trouble and delete that account (not just the info...the
account). You should now be able to create a new account and enter the
correct information. Type carefully. If you paste don't include spaces.

The password should now stick.

Diane,

I did as you suggested and found:
The pop3.demon keychain showed to need repair;
I also found there were 3 pop3.demon Items in the keychain.
I deleted the 3 pop3.demon Items and the email account.

I felt very confident you had found the problem.
I shut everything down and restarted the computer.

I set up a new mail account but got the sane failure.
I ran keychain first aid and got "pop3.demon.co.uk" has unspecified value for port attribute.
I ran keychain repair and got "No problems found."

I then attempted to delete the 3 pop3.demon keychain Item but got
"An error occurred while deleting "pop3.demon.co.uk." "CSSMERR_DL_INVALID_RECORD_UID"

Eventually I did delete the keychain.

I repeated your advice over with the same failure.
I ran keychain first aid and got "pop3.demon.co.uk" has unspecified value for port attribute.

The ports show as 110 and 25, which I believe is correct.

Peter – getting desperate.

"Item "pop3.demon.co.uk" has unspecified value for port attribute." Yet I knew they were correct.

Back to Demon who reset the password, which sorted it.

Thanks for your help.
