I am not able to type 2 consecutive strokes (ex two e's or spaces

When ever I need to type 2 characters in a row that are the same I cannot do
it and must first use any different key to reset. For example if I need to
type 2 E's the first is fine (and so would be any other letter) but will not
type second character of any thing that is the same as what I just typed.
