I am suddenly unable to open folders in Word

This started a little over 24 hours ago.....suddenly, I am unable to open any
of hte folders within the 'My Documents' folder. When I double-click on the
folder (as I normally would to open it), things freeze-up (hourglass) and
within about 30 seconds, I get the error message that Word is not responding,
do I want to end now, etc.

Has this happened to anyone else? and if so, what did you do to correct the
problem?

There is no mention of any Symantec/Norton updates, which seem like possible
culprits. I do not use any hp software except that for my printer (psc950).
Any ideas there? (There is another similar thread which I will check now,
which may answe this) Yhank you, anyway, Derek
