i am unable to access my downloaded .doc attachments

a company emailed me 3 .doc attachments to my home email address. I click
on download, then once it has been downloaded, I click on save to disk (I've
also tried "open from this location"), I'll see the file names in "my
documents" but when I click on the .doc file it goes into my "Wordpad"
screen and there is nothing there, the sender has their file composed in
MSWord, but I only have "notepad" & "wordpad" on my home computer

If you do not have Word installed, then you need to get the Word viewer from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...87-8732-48D5-8689-AB826E7B8FDF&displaylang=en.
This will allow you to view and print (but not edit or save) Word documents
(all versions).

Note that WordPad should also be able to open the documents.

I doubt that WordPad can display very complex formatting, however.

Right you are, even Word itself has difficulty on that issue from time to
time. ;-)
